Scarce Postcard by Friedrich Schiff. Chinese Juggler Girl

Chinese vintage postcard after a cartoon by Friedrich Schiff, an Austrian Jew who lived in Shanghai during the 1930s and 40s.

In 1930 Schiff visited Shanghai and ended up living there for 14 years,until 1947 when he moved to Buenos Aires.
 
His amusing caricatures of the city’s inhabitants, from beggars and expats to sailors and sing-song girls became famous world wide.
 
The Viennese Friedrich Schiff society (oegcf. Prof. Gerd Kaminski) has a huge collection of his paintings, drawings and cartoons and set up a permanent exhibition of his works.

Old postcard depicting "The Taotai of
Kashger (!)". ( A Taotai was an official at the head of the civil and military affairs of a circuit, which consists of two or more fu, or territorial departments- in this case Kasghar).

The postcard was published in Japan. Inscription in English, Japanese and Chinese. Brown toning of the upper margin otherwise fine condition. Unused, scarce.

Scarce early, lithographed color postcard entitled„ Nur immer rein in den deutschen Bund!" ( Just come in and join the German League. The postcard depicts Germans and an American black man with a beer mug. A Chinese soldier with pigtail and a German spiked helmet stands in a door.
