Emil Mario Vacano. Carte de Visite. Queer Artist.

Emil Mario Vacano (1840 – 1892 ) was an Austrian artist, circus rider and
author.

Emil Mario Vacano a queer figure, gay. When he was young he became famous as female (!) circus rider. Later he lived as nun in an Abbey . In his autobiographic works he appears as male figure with the female name Speranza, calling himself as "neat boy", and at the same time a "vain maiden". Even a well know duke was attracted by that.

Vacano had contact with Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. With the help of his friend Emerich von Stadion he published quite a few historic novels and stories.

The photo comes from the Austrian Imperial photo studio J. Loewy in Wien. Decorative reverse.
